The first state flag appeared in Russia at the turn of the 17-18 centuries, when Peter the Great was emperor. It was he who determined the colors: white, blue and red. Subsequently, the emperors Alexander II and Alexander III changed the appearance of the flags, however, the tricolor was always white-blue-red.
After the February Revolution in Russia in 1918, the flag changed to red with a golden image of a sickle and remained so for more than 70 years.
On August 22, 1991, President of Russia Boris Yeltsin again ruled that the main flag of the Russian Federation is a horizontal canvas of three equal horizontal stripes.
What do flag colors mean?
Red is a power. Blue is the color of the Mother of God, under whose protection Russia is, white is the color of freedom and independence.
